Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the CDS II examination, candidates need to meet certain criteria:

Nationality:

  • A candidate must be either:
    • A citizen of India, or
    • A subject of Bhutan, or
    • A subject of Nepal, or
    • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, intending to settle permanently in India, or
    • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam intending to settle in India permanently.

Age Limit:

  • For Indian Military Academy (IMA): Unmarried male candidates aged between 19 and 24 years.
  • For Indian Naval Academy (INA): Unmarried male candidates aged between 19 and 22 years.
  • For Air Force Academy (AFA): Unmarried male candidates aged between 20 and 24 years.
  • For Officers’ Training Academy (OTA): Male candidates (married or unmarried) aged between 19 and 25 years.

Educational Qualification:

  • For IMA and OTA: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent.
  • For INA: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognized university or institution.
  • For AFA: Bachelor’s degree with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

Syllabus

The CDS II examination comprises three papers:

  1. English
  2. General Knowledge
  3. Elementary Mathematics

English:

  • Grammar and usage
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension and cohesion in extended text

General Knowledge:

  • Current affairs
  • History of India and Geography
  • Indian Polity and Governance
  • Economic and Social Development
  • Environmental ecology
  • General Science

Elementary Mathematics:

  • Arithmetic
  • Algebra
  • Trigonometry
  • Geometry
  • Statistics
